Freshwater Pearls are cultured by the fish farmers in the freshwater lakes all over the World.  They take a particle of grit and transfer it into a host shell. Once done the living shell doesn't like a foreign particle in their home so it produces a bundle of nacre to cover the foreign body. This nacre is what produces the pearl and it also distinguishes the colour of the pearl which will be the same colour of the nacre produced. Mainly the same colour of the inside of the shell.  It will be left to grow for some time and after havesting the pearls are graded for size colour and quality before being sold.

I have used 8mm pearls to make this design and they dangle approx. 2.5cm below the earlobe when wearing them.
